The Bliss of Kirtan!

One of the most powerful helpers in your sadhana (spiritual practice) is kirtans.  Filled with a variety of prayers, meditations, and devotional sentiments, these kirtans are replete with material for contemplation and reflection upon God.

The Bhakti Rasamrit Sindhu defines kirtan as – singing the names, forms, qualities, pastimes, abodes, and associates of God.  It involves the three-fold processes of devotion (Tridha Bhakti) - shravan (hearing), kirtan (chanting), and smaran (remembering).

The goal of sadhana is to absorb the mind in God, and Tridha Bhakti is the most powerful means of accomplishing it.  Hearing and chanting are highly effective in helping remember God, as they allure the senses and prompt the mind to revert to divine thoughts if it happens to wander off.

However, the key component and essence of kirtans is smaran or remembrance.  Keeping the mind on God is of utmost importance, as that is what will purify the heart and take you further on your spiritual journey.

One of the latest kirtans on Swami Mukundananda’s SoundCloud Podcast is Dhusari, Dhuri Bhare Hari Aavata!

This beautiful kirtan composed by Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj portrays the enchanting scene of Lord Krishna returning from grazing cows, while the Gopis of Vrindavan eagerly await him, along with the rest of the residents of Braj.  It will leave you mesmerized and filled with loving devotion for God.  Swamiji has given his English translation of each verse in this track!  You are sure to enjoy it.
